FAQs

What is in your formula?

You can read our full ingredients list on our Ingredients Page where we go into detail about each ingredient, what each is used for, and its EWG rating. All our ingredients have an EWG score of 1-2 (safest) with the exception of our green pigment that scores a 3 (safe.)  If you don’t already check your makeup and beauty products in the EWG database, it’s a good place to start your clean makeup journey.

Note that brands that are vegan and cruelty-free are not always non-toxic too, as we found out here.

Are you vegan and cruelty-free?

Yes, both. As of May 2021, we are in the process of getting our Leaping Bunny certification. For indie companies like ours, this process can take up to 3 to 6 months for paperwork requirements review.

Is the palette really zero waste?

There isn’t a single product in the world that is truly zero waste. It is an ideal and we've gotten very close. Because our cork is up-cycled from wine corks and cork by definition does not kill the tree, it is one of the best materials to use for our palette. Cork trees are an excellent carbon sink and absorb 70x more carbon than a typical tree when they are regrowing cork.

Like a lot of trends, the zero waste term is being used by growing number of companies without being honest about it. It is not interchangeable with recyclable. When we designed our palette, we went through the long process of searching for materials that were as close to zero waste as possible, refusing “recycled” plastic or even coated paper palettes that were being touted as sustainable because you could recycle them. Instead we chose an organic, uncoated up-cycled material that would easily decompose back to the earth. And with 100% recycled paper and cork, no trees have been cut down. This is as close to zero waste as any beauty product packaging we've seen. We wanted to set the example.

Where are your products made?

Our products are made in the US, and our team is located in New York where we are currently creating our palettes in small batches. Our cork packaging comes by boat from Portugal to our cork supplier on the east coast, then we have an artisan hand cut each palette. Our Mica is mined in the US and free of child labor issues. We are always tightening up our footprint and looking for ways to minimize product travel.

How do I store my palette?

You should keep your palette inside the paperboard case! Because we don’t use any plastics or coatings in our palette case, it is also best to keep your palette away from high moisture areas or in a splash zone. Our cork is naturally moisture resistant and anti-microbial, and the palette case is made of 100% recycled paperboard.

Can I order a refill?

As of May 2021, our palettes could technically be refilled but we have not offered that option yet due to packaging logistics around shipping single pans and adhering the pans. We are working on making this an option in the future without the use of magnets which are not a sustainable material. We are researching non-toxic, water-soluble glue tabs as a solution to swapping out pans.

Are your mineral pigments safe from heavy metals?

Yes. We use an ethical supplier that takes the extra step of purifying their mineral pigments of any potential metal toxins. The ingredient cost is higher, but we think it's a no-brainer.

Are your ingredients EU and Prop 65 compliant?

Yes and Yes. Though we have not officially gone through the compliance certification process in the EU yet, we have been very diligent about avoiding ingredients that are on any global banned list. We are shocked at how many ingredients are legal in the US that really should not be — either because they pose a potential risk to human health or they are a proven environmental toxin. Read our full ingredient descriptions on the ingredients page.

Do you give back to organizations?

Yes, we do. We are an active One Percent For The Planet member where we commit annually to giving a percentage of each purchase. Your purchase goes toward organizations that work to clean up plastic pollution in our oceans both locally and globally.

How long does shipping take?

Your palette will arrive in 2-5 days depending on your location via USPS. Our prep time to ship your order is usually 24-48 hours. We also buy carbon offsets so that shipping to you is carbon neutral, at no additional cost to you.

Do you offer refunds?

We do offer refunds within 30 days if the palette arrived damaged before opening or you never opened it. We can not accept returns on used palettes for obvious reasons. Contact us here if you have an issue and we’d be happy to help.

Where do you ship?

We ship to the US, UK, EU, and Canada.
